Flakes that return after washing can be frustrating. Notice how your scalp feels as well as what you see: itching, oiliness and changes after cleansing can all help guide the conversation.
Flakes do not tell you the cause by themselves
Dandruff can cause flaking and itching, but flakes are not simply evidence of dirty hair. Product residue, dry skin and other scalp conditions can look similar. Dandruff may be associated with seborrheic dermatitis. Persistent redness, thick scaling or hair loss should not be labelled as ordinary buildup.

A few things worth noticing
You do not need to work out the cause yourself. These details simply give us a clearer place to start.
- What you see
- Notice loose flakes, residue around the roots, or thicker areas of scaling.
- What you feel
- Record itching, tenderness or discomfort as well as visible flakes.
- What changes
- Notice the response to washing and to products you have already tried.

Practical steps for your routine
- For mild dandruff, use a dandruff shampoo according to its label, including how long to leave it on.
- Choose frequency around the product instructions and your hair type; protect the lengths from unnecessary drying.
- Avoid picking or scraping flakes. If symptoms remain after about a month of appropriate shampoo use, seek medical advice.
Care at Dr.Scalp
Finding the right care for you
We begin with a closer look at visible buildup and a conversation about your routine. Let us know what you have already tried, including medicated shampoos, so we can discuss cosmetic care in that context.
A place for traditional herbal care
Anti-Dandruff Treatment offers herbal cleansing and steam within the service menu. These cosmetic steps may be considered for suitable scalps; they are not a substitute for diagnosis or prescribed care for a skin condition.
